Lakeside Rodeo Princess, Kimberly Payton and Miss Rodeo Lakeside 2007,
Lindsey Kemmsies were crowned on March 24th at the Lakeside Rodeo
Grounds.
Up Close with Miss Rodeo Lakeside:
Each year, young women come from all over the county to compete for the coveted title of Miss
Rodeo Lakeside. The pageant attracts those interested in supporting the sport of rodeo and
representing our Annual Lakeside Rodeo. Not only do these women have to be knowledgeable
in rodeo and current events, they have to be able to ride a horse extremely well.
Lindsay Kemmsies, Miss Rodeo Lakeside 2007, knows what it takes to successfully carry the
rodeo queen title. “I love talking to the public about the dedication it takes to live a rodeo
lifestyle,” said Lindsay, a 19-year-old San Diego State University freshman. “And there is no
honor I’d rather have than being able to represent our rodeo as Miss Rodeo Lakeside.”
“One of my favorite parts of being Miss Rodeo Lakeside is sharing the excitement of the
Lakeside Rodeo with someone who has never been to one.” Lindsay travels to rodeos, schools,
parades and special events promoting rodeo and family values, and is thought of as a role model
to children throughout the county. She also promotes the goals of the Lakeside Rodeo, an
annual fundraiser.
Lakeside Rodeo Princess Kimberly Payton accompanies Lindsay to all Lakeside Rodeo events
sharing the benefits this local rodeo brings to Lakeside.
“I am proud that the Lakeside Rodeo is a non-profit organization that donates over $100,000 to
the youth of Lakeside each year,” says Kimberly, a 17-year-old Junior at Granite Hills High
School. “Our rodeo is an entertainment destination for San Diego County families and also a vital
fundraiser for Lakeside children.”
Winning the Miss Rodeo Lakeside crown is no easy task. Contestants have a full competition day
with a horsemanship pattern, written test and personality interview, and end with modeling, two
impromptu questions and a short speech. Contestants start practicing together weeks before
the pageant to fine-tune their skills for the final night. For some contestants, it is their first time
to model, speak in front of an audience or undergo an interview.
